A NOTE FROM OHIO’S WINDING ROAD: During this unprecedented time of Covid-19, we are saddened to say that many of the experiences presented in this field guide are or will be canceled to help prevent the spread of the virus. We ask that you please check with each event organizer to see if the events are still being held. And yet, we feel strongly that Ohio’s Winding Road can still celebrate the people and businesses and organizations behind these experiences. We will continue to offer them support through our “Seed Fund” grants, workshops and training programs, and regional promotion. You can also keep these people in mind as you plan your own future experiences after the virus passes. Finally, we ask that you, too, find ways to help and support your neighbors throughout southeastern Ohio.
As the 2020 growing season unfolds in southeastern Ohio, we want to focus on different ways to experience all that the region has to offer: what can be more ‘local’ than fresh produce, flowers, plants, meats, cheeses, and so many other products that come from the land? And, we’re excited that there are many ways to experience these products and the places and farms where they come from. So, we’ve decided to focus not only on markets, but also on the farms themselves, where you can often go for a tour or event that brings you closer to the land and the people who take care of it. It’s a win-win! Over the year, we’ll keep adding to these lists (check out our website –– SEOHIO.ORG –– for updates). But for now, here are just a few of the different farms and markets to visit and enjoy the bounty of Ohio’s Winding Road.

BLUE ROCK STATION

Blaney Backyard Farm & Blaney Family Farm – Self-Serve Farmstand (which will be open every day, all year, as a self-serve structure). Their Spring/Summer CSA will begin distributing in either April or May (TBD), and will run through September or October. WYATT RUN FARM & ECOLOGY TOUR
A small cooperative farm located in southeastern Ohio, with courses, events, and guest house. They offer a space for workshops, retreats, and gatherings far from city life and its attendant distractions. The ecology tour takes place from May 2, 2020 through May 10, 2020. Local produce from Fairfield and surrounding counties. Sale days are Tuesdays and Fridays starting at noon. Hay sales on the first Friday of the month. CHESTERHILL PRODUCE AUCTION
The Chesterhill Produce Auction is a Social Enterprise of Rural Action located just outside the Village of Chesterhill in Morgan County. Hundreds of growers utilize the auction as a place to sell their locally grown produce at wholesale to other businesses in the region, including restaurants, schools, hospitals, pop-up markets in rural areas with limited fresh food access, plus individual buyers who can and preserve. Hosted by Destination Shawnee, this market meets on First Fridays of every month, May through October, from 5-7PM. Location: at the intersection of St Rts 93 and 155 in Shawnee.
