OWR Snapshot: Zaleski State Forest

In an ongoing series, our own Grant Joy has been traveling throughout the OWR region on short day-trips to find and share its natural beauty:

Zaleski State Forest offers ample recreational opportunities, as it is Ohio’s second-largest state forest. Zaleski is known for its popular 28.8 mile backpacking loop in addition to its 31 miles of bridle trail throughout the forest. Whether you decide to backpack or drive through the forest, it offers an immersive experience into some of Ohio’s most rugged and steep ridges and some of the State’s deepest valleys. Driving along Buck Lane ridge provides good glimpses of the surrounding hill country and in the winter, one can even see small, scattered stands of Pines that sit atop the nearby ridges.
