Looking to start a business or design a product that screams “authentic southeastern Ohio?”  Perhaps you know a friend or a client who is on this path? A guided tour, a local art consignment shop, an Airbnb lodging option, a festival celebrating salamander diversity, a hops farm, candle making, guided canoe rides, kayak lessons, turkey hunting decoys, a microbrewery, a poetry slam….the options are abundant and the need is growing as residents and visitors alike are craving “real” experiences in Ohio’s Rising Appalachia!

On November 17th, join our meet up for “Experience Entrepreneurs and Producers.” Perhaps you are just launching or are in need of support for growing your already existing venture.  This meet up will put you in contact with training and technical assistance resources from Regional non-profits such as ACENet,  Rural Action, and SPICE and put you in contact with fellow travelers on this entrepreneurial journey. It will explore success stories in the region, while discussing gaps in experience products that might have success. Resources such as social media skills, accessing KIVA loans, or writing a business plan are available in our region and this meet up will put you in touch with them, and identify common needs such as rental vans, credit card processing platforms, or joint advertising buys. We have interested folks at Hocking College and Ohio University who can help as well. At the same time we’d like to get entrepreneurs networked with one another and to consider how you can be part of a network of people making southeastern Ohio a cooler place to live and visit!

On December 8th, join us and interpretive guide Ken Bowald to talk about what it means to be an interpretive guide, and to build a calendar of interpretive tours, adventures, and programs for 2019. This is an excellent chance to meet other guides and like minded folks curious about how history and education come together.

There is no cost for these meet ups, but we ask that folks pre-register via Eventbrite so we know how many to prepare for.  The events will take place at the Tecumseh Commons; 116 West Main Street, Shawnee, Ohio, 43782. Lunch will be available for purchase across the street.
