Citizens are invited to join with Ohio University faculty and students on a free bus tour of the Little Cities of Black Diamonds/Little Cities of the Forest microregion adjacent to the Athens campus.  The annual tour of the mining towns and forest lands of Hocking, Athens and Perry Counties is meant to provide an orientation to the region for interested parties at the university, and a chance for residents of the region to look at this part of the world through the eyes of students and faculty unfamiliar with southeastern Ohio.  The narrated tour will pass through Nelsonville, Rutherford Wetland, Haydenville, New Straitsville, Shawnee, Rendville and Glouster, with stops at various points of interest along the way.  Registration is required by submitting your request for a seat to martinj8@ohio.edu. Limited seating is available! A complimentary lunch will be provided to participants in Shawnee.

The tour is made possible by community partners Sunday Creek Associates (Little Cities of Black Diamonds Council, Tecumseh Theater, etc.), Rural Action (Watershed Restoration and Envrionmental Education, etc.) and Ohio’s Appalachian Winding Road and Ohio University partners: The Patton College of Education, the College of Arts & Science, and the Center for Campus and Community Engagement and the 1804 Fund.
