Little Cities of Black Diamonds Day • October 16 (completed)

on

The time has come for another Little Cities of Black Diamonds Day. Join others on Main Street in Historic Shawnee this upcoming Sunday, October 16th for a day of fun, food and history. This years theme, Spirits of the Little Cities Temperance and Taverns, is sure to spark your interest as organizers look at the state of alcohol consumption and temperance in the coal mining towns of southeastern historically and in modern day.  Enjoy locally produced (legal) moonshine, microbrews, wine and mead at a makeshift Speakeasy and hear panels discuss popular taverns, the temperance movement and the role of contemporary producers in the local economy.  Enjoy the other festivities of the day including a chance to march in a temperance parade (3PM), exhibits, pop-up theatre, live music and more.  A concert with Columbus Rock and Blues star Jesse Henry closes out the day at 4PM in the Tecumseh Commons. Come enjoy history with us as it comes alive in the spirits of each of us and the spirits in the bottle. For more information go to www.littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org.
