Strouds Run Groundhog Hike

on

Come enjoy some outdoor fun at the 14th annual Groundhog Hike on Sunday, Feb. 5 at Strouds Run State Park.  The Athens Conservancy and Friends of Strouds Run State Park are sponsoring this free event.  Hot soup and other refreshments will be provided.  The hiking route will be flagged and maps will be available.

The meeting place will be shelterhouse 1 (Bulldog Shelter), located on Strouds Run Road (County Road 20), a half-mile beyond the park entrance if coming from Athens.

Participants may choose to hike on their own, starting anytime between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m., or join either of two guided hikes that begin at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.  The earlier hike will follow a 3.8-mile loop involving the Strouds Run, Thunderbunny and Vista Point Trails.   The later one will be shorter and suitable for families with children.

This is a great opportunity to get together with other people interested in the outdoors, to get some healthy exercise in the doldrums of winter, and to eat good food—and there’s always something new to see on the trails.
