OWR SNAPSHOT: HOCKHOCKING ADENA BIKEWAY
In an ongoing series, our own Grant Joy has been traveling throughout the OWR region on short day-trips to find and share its natural beauty:

The Hockhocking Adena Bikeway is 21 miles long and follows the scenic Hocking River from Athens to Nelsonville. Hockhocking is the Shawnee term for “bottleneck” as it describes the Hocking River. Adena pays homage to the first nation’s people who called the Hocking Valley home between 1000 B.C. and 200 A.D. The bikeway is easily accessible and provides a continued source of recreation.

To learn more about the bikeway, check out the Athens CVB webpage here.

Nice pics! I think “Hockhocking” is actually from the Delaware(Lenape), not Shawnee language, but I’m not sure.

    Thanks for posting!
